We are seeking a VP of Project Construction - Solar to act as the primary manager of all phases of an energy project.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
This role is part of the executive leadership team and reports directly to the COO.

Solar construction management experience is required.

As part of one of the nation’s fastest-growing (Inc 500) and most innovative companies, you will be joining our accomplished team at our downtown Austin headquarters while traveling to sites around the nation as projects are implemented.

Assigned projects will include a combination of microgrid installations (solar, battery, generators), energy efficiency measures (MEP systems, lighting, building automation), and various carbon reduction strategies to help commercial and industrial customers around the United States become more sustainable, save money, and improve processes in their facilities.

In this role, you will manage one to several projects simultaneously, from early development through post-construction, including design, contract negotiations, and project implementation. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in supervising/managing various construction scopes and partnering with building owners, subcontractors, and other project team members.

  • Assign responsibilities to the project team; establish schedules for individual team members

  • Travel to site and serve as the customer’s primary contact during the implementation phase

  • Manage and supervise subcontractors and self-performing teams throughout project duration

  • Coordinate equipment delivery with suppliers, subcontractors, the Project Manager and owner to ensure job site coordination

  • Provide support to contractors to solve construction issues or improve results of the project. Identify and resolve potential project issues in a timely fashion

  • Manage all technical aspects of the project, including scope development, savings analysis, and constructability of the measures

  • Assist the Sales team in customer presentations and interviews during the development phase

  • Work with Legal to prepare and negotiate customer agreements and change orders

  • Manage all cost components of the project during implementation, and maintain precise and updated actual costs versus budget throughout the project

  • Responsible for immediately notifying the supervisor upon determining that a project budget or staffing plan needs adjustment

  • Establish a project schedule with adequate milestones for regular progress measurement

  • Ensure that the customer has signed off on the submittals

  • Manage the job to completion within the schedule. Issues regular job progress reports.

  • Complete budget analysis and forecasting on a monthly basis for each project

  • Ensure all projects are set up in project management software

  • Ensure all local labor compliance regulations are achieved

  • Monitor the installation and, start-up, commissioning of new equipment or systems. Ensure manufacturer requirements and project specifications are met

  • Execute a plan for completing and tracking punch list items. Coordinate field inspections

  • Other duties as assigned
  • BSME, BSEE, or Construction Management equivalent four-year technical degree.

  • 7+ years of progressive engineering experience in complex energy projects such as microgrids, power generation / combined heat, and power

  • Solar energy construction experience

  • State Professional Engineering license preferred / OSHA 10 preferred

  • Clear technical communication skills, verbally and in writing

  • Financial analysis skills to predict customer project economics and manage project budgets

  • Negotiation skills that protect Facility Innovations Group’s interests on a given project while building customer and vendor/subcontractor rapport

  • Ability to prepare and write accurate customer reports and responses, with attention to customer goals and needs

  • Ability to create and execute project development and delivery schedule

  • Excellent adherence to schedule and collaborative problem-solving skills to maintain budget, schedule, and customer satisfaction

  • High standards of accuracy, appearance, and thoroughness of project documentation

  • Ability to review engineering work across all typical energy project scope types

  • Understanding of contract scopes of work and alignment with subcontractor scopes of work

  • Ability to review and improve energy analysis performed by others for all project sizes

  • Understands Project Engineer job responsibilities in project development

  • Understands the durations and requirements of energy measure development and delivery

  • Prepares and understands proformas

  • Understands general construction methods and has the ability to work with the construction manager to implement the project
